What are some good ways for a dog to lose 10 pounds?
She's 9 years old, a Catahoula/Blue Heeler cross and she's been overweight for almost all of her life. She weighs 70 pounds and SHOULD weigh 60 pounds. She is currently on Purina One diet food, and she hasn't lost anyweight. What is a healthy amount to lose per week? She has a heart condition (her heart is too big), and slight arthritis, so I need to build up her activity (i.e. 10 min walk Monday, 15 min walk Tuesday, 20 min walk wednesday, etc...) Is there any excercise besides walking?

- this is sumthing that u shud consult a vet as he ll tell the most appropriate measures to be taken coz every person ll gv u different opinion abt this. gud luck take care
- exercise, exercise, exercise!
- have you tried a short walks every night? hay i have a Catahoula too but shes about 2 and shes huge
- More exercise Cut out the snacks Milk bone is very fattening
- make him/her run everyday and get the low cal food at the store and just bascily make the dog go outside and run. get a big piece of meat and teases him and make him run
- you go out and run around the block you take the dog with you OK
- First of all you must change the concentrate that she already eats to a low calorie one- Second, try to take her to a walk of half an hour daily. Third, don't give her any bisquick or cookies. Good luck!
- call the vet and ask about the correct amount. Then, get her outside and exercising!
- Can your dog swim? My dog loves to play fetch and swim. So we go to the lake and I throw out a frisbee or stick and he goes to get it. The swimming is great exercise and low-impact.
- other than walking your dog ,swimming is a good exercise.give her low carb food,no treats.raw food is the best option.
- I would really consult your vet on that one. If she has heart problems, you really don't want to overdo her exercises, as that may be more damaging to her..... Good Luck and hope all goes well.
- Well, you could change the dog food, gove her less dog food, exercize, and if your vet thinks this is a good idea and you want to there is lipo suction for dogs.
- With a heart condition, I would try just walking and building up the time and distance slowly. Only walk during the cool of the day. You would not want to stress her heart out more by going out on a 90 degree day.
- Walking is the best. Cut back on the food a bit and walk her longer more often. That should help her weight and the arthritis. Avoid games like Frisbee that involve jumping and twisting.
