Is cutting calories the best way to lose weight?
what happens if you eat 1500 calories a day and you lose 50 pounds, but you stop losing weight? would you need to cut down on calories again in order to keep losing the weight?

- if you cut down too much then your body wont keep up the strength you need. the best way is to exercise
- Cutting calories combined with burning more calories is the only way to lose weight. Losing weight is a simple equation: if you burn more calories than you eat, the weight will come off. Start off by estimating how many calories you burn each day using the calorie calculator http://straighthealth.com/pages/tools/caloriecalclb.html This will give you an idea of how many calories to eat. Healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds per week. To lose 1 pound per week you need to create a calorie deficit (burn more than you eat) of 500 calories per day. To lose 2 pounds a week, you have to double the deficit to 1000 calories per day. You can achieve this by eating less, exercising more or a combination of both. - Yes. Eventually if you consume 1500 calories your body will adjust and you will stop losing weight after you reach a certain weight (you will probably be countable-ribs skinny at that time). If this were not true, almost everyone in Ethiopia would be dead now! And to lose even more weight indeed you would have to further restrict calories, or at least make some other equivalent change to the diet or activity level to lose more weight. Also at that point losing more weight will result in signficant strength loss.
- you should atleast be intaking 1200 calories a day. you say you were consuming 1500 a day and losing weight, you could try to lower the amount you're taking in and i'm sure you'll lose some more. BUT just make sure you're still eating the amount you need out of all the food groups and eating small meals throughout the day. Of course exercise will help with this also. Especially for toning your muscles and losing inches. Just as good as losing weight in pounds even though you don't see the number changes.....good luck!
