What is the minimum number of calories to eat to lose weight in a healthy way?

I currently weight about 260 pounds and am 5'5" tall. I'd like to get down to 160. Does anyone know about this?

  4. To lose weight you must expend more calories than you consume. This varies from person to person. Eat several small meals throughout the day instead of one large one. Participate in cardiovascular exercise 3-5 times a week at least 30 minutes a day. Park further away than usual and take the stairs instead of the elevator/escalator. Every little bit helps. A healthy goal is 1 pound per week. You must also remember that muscle weighs more than adipose tissue. So you may be losing fat but building lean muscle mass which will in turn increase your weight.

I wouldnt go lower the 1200 calories, as long as you are not preganat or nursing, however please not that your body gets used to eating 1200..or however many... calories you consume, and adjusts your metabolism acordingly, thats why ever since the low cal/low fat diet made its debut in the early '90's we have become more obese, I would try to exersice 3x aweek, 20-30 mins, eat healthier, but not nessarily lighter, and more frequesnt meals but stop eating past 7pm, consume lots of water and avoid splenda, nutrasweet, products, they have a whole host of other problems associayted with them. If you are over wieght you may want to do a 24-48 hour fast to break sugar cravings, fast on fresh friut/vegatbles and water for 1-2 days then slowly re interduce foods, this will flush toxins out of your body and should jump start you 2 lbs or more, if your diabetic, or have any serious health coindition, please consult a doctor before making ANY dietary changes. If you still insist on going low carb, the "3 hour diet" is the way to go, he works to keep your metabolism going and gives you a menue for around 1400 calories per day, Jorge Cruise wrote the book, you can look it up on amazon, there youll find rewies

  8. im just going to say every 3500 calories you eat less or exercise more then the week before you lose 1 pound so see how much you usually et and try to save 3500 weekly hope this helps you
  9. There is no minimum. If you eat below the number of calories you need, your body will use its fat stores. Imagine gastric bypass patients who eat only 500 calories a day. They lose very quickly and it's doctor approved. Naturally the 500 calories are in the form of meal replacement shakes not junk food so there's nothing "unhealthy". We have a water fasting thread at the Kimkins diet website. I often comment that Dr. Joel Fuhrman, a physician in New York City, is a faster himself and supervises his morbidly obese patients on water fasts which last several months. If you're more comfortable with a typical diet like Weight Watchers, you'll lose 2 lbs a week at your weight. You can find guidelines with a Google search. People who prefer to lose more quickly might prefer the Kimkins diet which is low calorie low carb and produces very rapid results.

There are two ways by which we can lose weight. * Eating less * Exercising more You know 1 gram of protein = 4 calories 1 gram of carbohydrates = 4 calories 1 gram of fat = 9 calories 1 pound of fat = 454 gram So 1 pound of fat = 9*454 = 4086 calories Note: Our body fat contains around 3500 calories, as 10% of it is water. So in order to lose a pound of fat (4086) in 2 weeks, we need to decrease calories consumption by 290 per day as 4096/14=290(approx) 15 minute of good exercise will help you in losing around 100 calories. So in order to lose 1 pound of fat in two weeks, we need to exercise for around 45 minutes (290 calories) if we do not want to make any changing in our eating habit. So just take care of the amount of calories in the food you take. The best idea for losing weight will be by cutting down the junk food with exercising. So greatest way to lose weight is a mixture of diet and exercise as exercise builds muscles, and bigger muscles burn more fat.

You really have to look at two areas of your life and adjust them to match your goals: * Diet * Exercise You simply can't get around these two facts. You have to consume fewer calories than you burn each day to loose weight. So if you don't change your diet, then you'll have to exercise more. Frankly, it's easier to adjust both things. Eat less, or eat smarter and exercise moderately. You don't have to go overboard. A 20 minute walk around the block is exercise. Find someone who can share the goal with you. Another overweight friend who will walk with you. That helps a lot. You can encourage each other.
