Ways to lose pounds fast

How to lose 10-20 Pounds fast in 1 month? Diet and Exercise Recommendations?

I'm 5'0 and 115 lbs, but even though I'm in the normal weight range, I'm still chunky all over esp. in my arms and tummy. Can you recommend any diets that would make me lose 10-20 pounds fast? I've been running on the tread mill for 30 mins everyday for a month and haven't been seeing much progress.

  1. just do sit ups 30 every night for a week.
  2. You need to change your diet. Get rid of the sugars and simple carbohydrates. Eat more protein and complex carbs. You should also start weight training. Muscle increases your metabolism. However, losing 10-20lbs of fat in one month will not happen. ever.
  3. Cardio will help but sounds like you need weight training for firming up.
  4. My advice would to not lose weight but to tone up. Losing weight isn't just going to cure everything. So many people assume that the only way to look better is to lose weight. Focus on toning right now. Lift weights, run at a higher speed (not for longer periods of time), and try some pilates/aerobics. As for dieting, you need to focus more on a lifestyle change and less one how much weight you can lose in a month. Learn how to eat well and learn how to be happy with what you eat. Instead of cutting out food, learn how to eat in moderation.
  5. It's not healthy to lose that much weight in one month. You sound like your weight is appropriate. Stop acting lik an anorexic before you parents have to pull the plug when you are brain dead from the heart attacks you had because of malnutrition.
  6. There are basically three ways: 1. Take a look at your diet and cut out any extra calories like processed foods, cookies, chocolate, etc. 2. Increase your workout to at least 1 hour. 3. If you have the willpower for it, you could try a juice fast. That kind of weight loss is very possible over the course of a month-long fast. You need to stick with it though. You can find out more information at http://www.rawfoodtalk.com Click on the forum then on the Juicing forum.
  7. Try the "Fruit Flush" diet by Jay Robb. A bunch of women at my office did it and lost at least 10 lbs from it. Here's the link for the website: http://www.jayrobb.com/cat_fruitFlushDietEbook.asp It doesn't taste the best for the first 2 days, and it costs $5 for the diet instructions, but it's worth it!!! Good luck! :)

  9. Two diets have worked for me in the past. 1. South Beach - High lean protein - low fat and moderate carbs. Like Atkins with all of the stuff that you always thought was bad (bacon, cheese) cut out. 2. Body for Life. If you are on the treadmill quite a bit it would help to add some weight training - don't worry you won't bulk up, but you will add definition to your arms, shoulders, and back. Body for life diet is similiar to South Beach just with smaller meals more often and more protein shakes. From 115 it will be hard to drop 20 in one month, but if you stay strict with either of those you should be able to drop close to 10 in one month. They will also both help you keep the lean muscle mass while firming up the soft spots. And you have hit the real weakness of BMI. No difference between fat and muscle or between men and women. A ripped basketball player can be considered fat while a "soft around the middle" woman can be normal. Good luck - get down to your ripped self.
  10. Unfortunately, running or any type of cario won't do it alone. Great for your heart and bodily functions, but you need resistance training to burn off the fat. I'd recommend cross-training - combining the running you're already doing with 2 or 3 days of weight training, say a body sculpting class. Or you can use weight machines by yourself, using a moderate resistance with a higher number of reps (say 10 to 15) to tone and tighten. Using a heavier weight will result in bulkier muscles. 2 to 3 sets for each muscle group should do it. Also, remember that muscle weighs more than fat so you may not see an immediate drop in pounds. Give it time to work and the muscles you're excersing will burn off the fat. Good Luck!
  11. You do not ever want to lose weight "fast." Once you lose it....it will find you. Lose slowly & you stand a better chance of keeping it off. Try the Atkin's plan, but ask your doctor first. If he says it's fine for you, buy the paperback edition of the Atkin's Diet & read up to & including phase 1 & 2....once you have been on those two phases & are ready to move on, read phase 3 & 4.....If you try to read the whole book before you begin, you will get confused, so take it slow, phase by phase. On the Atkin's food, you are allowed a lot of food but on this diet, you are eliminating nearly all carbs. If you're a pasta lover, try the wheat pastas. They are good & so much better for you. Drink lots of water, as it will help a lot in losing weight by flushing out all the impurities in your body. The first phase of the diet, deals with getting rid of all the garbage in your body. Exercise daily also because that's part of the plan. You will reach plateaus, where you may not lose, but not to worry. Your body is just catching up with your weight losses. This is a wonderful diet for diabetics especially, as it keeps your blood sugar level in the normal range most of the time. If you decide to try this diet, I wish you all the best. Once you get toned more, you will not look "chunky"" as you put it.
  12. First thing you should do is join a gym and do weight training and some cardio. Not at the same time unless you cardio is 10 mins long. Weight training train 2 body parts per night, a large musle group with a small is better. I will put what i mean underneath Monday - cardio Tuesday - Back and biceps (abs) Wednesday-Cardio Thursday-Legs, shoulders Friday- Chest and triceps (abs) Saturday - Cardio Sunday - Rest Where the fat is concerned this is where diet is important. You can hit the gym 5 times a week, so a thousand ab workout and still have fat, why because although the muscle is developed there is a layer of fat blocking it. To get rid of the fat, cut out sugars, processed foods, softdrinks, fizzy drinks, instead consume whole foods making sure they contain proteins for building muscle, carbs for energy and fats. Consume carbs during the day, drink lots of water, invest in some green tea, fish oil caps and a multi vitamin and some whey protein.
  13. Pretty common. The good news is that it is not unhealthy. It sounds like you are going for appearance, though, so the bad news is that you can not lose 10 pounds in a month without feeling terrible for thirty days. But if you lost those 10 pounds, would they come from the places you want? No. Those pounds would come from all over. This phenomenon is more distressing for women than men. Men want to lose their bellies. Women want to lose their hips and tummy. But women, generally speaking, do not want to lose their chests and when you start losing fat, you lose if from everwhere. There are lots of ways to make yourself lighter in that period of time, but that won't make you thinner. You can not lose twenty pounds in a month without giving birth to twins. Start with pushups. That will tone your triceps (the back of your arms where the problem is). Crunches are good, if done correctly, for your tummy, but can be hard on your back if done incorrectly. If you hurt your back, you will be unable to continue with any exercise whatsoever. Find a good trainer or IM me and I'll let you know. (ninety9point8 on yahoo IM)
  14. cut sugar, flour and starch. minimal carbs, minimal fat. Lots of water/crystal light...give up soda...even if it's diet. Excercise BEFORE you eat....better to exercise in the morning. Stay away from non-prescription weight-loss pills or appetite suppressants. I have been under a doc's care for 5 weeks to help loose weight, following the advise given above. I've lost 40 pounds. Extreme, yes. But I am working toward loosing 100lbs total. Stick to it and good luck!
