  1. under a doctors care, balance diet an exercise don't take diet pills that will raise your heart rate even more.
  2. Try some very serious exercise. What you ingest has only partial impact on any physical issues. What you do with what you ingest has a lot more to do with it. Make sure you "clear it" with your doctor before hand, but with the summer coming on, you can do easy walks, with some stress applied, and come out looking real good. Of course, watching your diet is significant. I have been a VERY AVID bicycle rider / racer over the past 20 years, along with long distance running and walking, and watching my nutrition closely. One funny thing I did learn, after all the thousands of miles I rode my bicycle: It cost me more per mile to ride my bicycle than to drive my VW diesel, which was a very serious gas miser (57mpg - yes, I said fifty-seven mpg). I just rode my bicycle a lot harder than I drove my very economical car. But you can walk for dang near free, so, no excuses. AND, with the warmer temperatures coming on, DRINK PLENTY OF WATER!!!!! Never forget that. God Bless you.
  3. First off, diet pills do not work and they aren't regulated at all, so they don't have to work. You can put salt in a pill form and sell it as a weight loss pill. And when people die from high blood pressure everyone will blame other factors and you can continue to sell your pill...see what I'm saying? Anyway, you can control your BP without drugs. A healthy diet, one that is full of whole grain carbs, fruits, veggies, lean proteins, and unsaturated fat will do this for you, as well as melting off the excess fat. Try egg substitue for scrambed eggs, it tastes exactly like real eggs. It also works in baked goods. I also buy the turkey versions of all my meats. If I'm making spaghetti with a meat sauce, I use all ground turkey but if I'm making burgers or a meatloaf, i use half turkey, half beef for the taste. But all that cuts out a lot of the fat. Try eating more bananas, as you want a good balance of sodium and potassium. Good luck, and feel free to email me if you have any questions or concerns or need anything.
  4. I know you have asthma but there are world class athletes who have asthma and still can be active. I suspect in addition to asthma there may be smidgen of de-conditioning. As much as you would like to think othrwise, you know very well that there is no magic bullet. Anything you take is going to have its down side, even if its effective - which it rarely is. Lifestyle changes rather than radical "drop 50 in a month" plans is what you need...things you can continue to do forever. *Start walking, dust off the bicycle, find a buddy who is motivated to go with you. Whatever activity, make it fun and do it consistently. At some point if you can manage some higher intensity stuff, like tennis or swimming - go for it. *Limit your calories to 2000 or less a day. *Be sure to eat breakfast every day. *Get adequate sleep. *Be sure to include skim or low fat milk in your diet, daily. *Avoid any products that contain "high fructose corn syrup" Be well and good luck
  5. do not under any circumstances stop taking your medication due to people telling you "you can control it w/o medication by diet" Hypertension can be genetically determined as well as environmentally. Therefore you could have a grat diet and still have it. If you stop medicine you could have a stroke or other dire consequences. Improving lifestyle can be a big help. Slowly increasing exercise under your doctor's directions and eating well and losing weight is recommended as well. Stay away from over the counter diet pills. Shakes that have no "herbs" are probably OK if sugar free (something like slimfast) and if it helps you to curb eating. Save the money for joining a gym or taking some yoga classes or swimming classes. Ask your doctor about an eating plan best for you. Best of luck
